Born in 1927, Fidel Castro has spent his entire life charging forward. First he entered into battle against the Dominican dictatorship of Trujillo, then he was an active supporter of the Partido Ortodoxo and organised the armed revolution against Batista’s dictatorship. Backed by farmers and intellectuals, Castro forced Batista to leave the island.
Having proclaimed himself prime minister, the "Lider Maximo" reorganised the State on nationalistic and socialist bases. He has been president of the country since 1976. This documentary tells the story of his life from his childhood and the Jesuit education through his friendship with Che Guevara and the Missile Crisis, including the 1998 historical meeting between Castro and Pope John Paul II.
